Sergei Snegov's novel, written in the genre of "space opera", rare for the Soviet era, rightfully belongs to the best works of Russian fiction that have passed the test of time, read and re-read today.
The fate of the book, despite its undeniable success, was not easy. The novel was rejected by four publishing houses, it departed too sharply from the usual canons. And already accepted for publication, it was subjected to harsh, sometimes senseless vivisection: numerous, often unreasonable bills, endless quibbles of publishers, arbitrary editorial inserts made without the author's knowledge - and as a result of all this failures and inconsistencies in the plot...
The full, restored version of Sergei Snegov's stellar epic, which is offered in this book, was released only in 2010, 16 years after the writer's death.
