Inspired by the combination of nature and ancient culture, Jacqueline Ryan seeks to honour nature in her jewels and perpetuates plants in gold and vitreous enamels. Jacqueline sets perfect balance between beautiful natural shapes and her own unique sense of design and style. Elegance of her works makes them desirable treasures for both private collections and exhibitions of the best museums around the world.
Since childhood, Jacqueline has been fascinated by the world of nature, countless combinations of shapes, structures, textures and colours created by Nature over millions of years of evolution. In her work, she tries to convey fragments of her impressions from zoos, museums, aquariums and botanical gardens. Firstly, she repeats the most inspiring elements in the form of a miniature paper model, and then embodies them in products, made of precious metals.
Most of her jewellery consist of moving elements that shake, rattle or vibrate, complementing movements of the body of its owner. Jacqueline likes to think of her work as a wearable art. "Interaction of an owner with a work should revive the product, and thus complete its function", says the artist.
Jacqueline got her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989 and continued her art studies, specializing in jewellery at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1991, she became a Master of Arts and in 1992 moved to Padua, Italy with goldsmith Giovanni Corvaja. They worked there together for 9 years before moving to Umbrian countryside, which proved to be extremely stimulating for Jacqueline's creations, inspired by lush Italian nature.
However, it is inspired not only by nature but also by art of ancient cultures such as Egyptian and Etruscan. She admires greatly how much they adore, respect and worship nature. Aspect of jewellery and timelessness in these ancient works of art fascinate her. Especially the fact that they seem aesthetic, attractive and inspiring even today. Besides, Jacqueline tries to keep timelessness element in her jewellery.
